Hilda Hellström | Vid Ödets Rand, på urtidens kant
We are excited to present Hilda Hellström’s sixth solo exhibition at the gallery.
Vid ödets rand, på urtidens kant takes its title from the mythological island of Urdabryn—a completely isolated place, suspended at the edge of time and reality. In the exhibition, we are faced with geological remnants that bear traces of its existence and we encounter a team of scientists who, according to legend, became absorbed by the island’s bedrock.
In her practice, Hilda Hellström explores the immanent forces and narratives embedded within materials and the natural world. Through intricate casting techniques and an experimental approach to craft, she investigates transformation, liminal states, and the metamorphic potential of matter. Fabulation is another central aspect of her work, where scientific facts and imagined narratives intertwine to create spaces between the known and the unknown.
The exhibition brings together a range of media, including sculpture, reliefs, intarsia, and video. It is accompanied by a text written by the artist, and an essay by journalist and writer Magnus Haglund.
Hilda Hellström (b. 1984) lives and works in Copenhagen and holds an MFA from Royal College of Art in London. Her work has been shown at major institutions throughout Europe and Asia, and is represented in important collections such as Göteborgs Konstmuseum, Copenhagen City Council (DK), Malmö Konstmuseum, Röhsska Museum, Gothenburg, Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver (US), Hallands Konstmuseum, Halmstad, Public Art Agency Sweden, and MAK, Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna (AT). Recent solo and group exhibition venues include Art Brussels, Brussels Expo (2026), ArkDes, Stockholm (2024, 2018), Elverket, Ekenäs (2023, 2022), Göteborgs Konstmuseum (2021–22, 2015), Institut Suédois, Paris (2019), and Etage Projects, Copenhagen (2019). Hellström has created several public works. Recent projects include large-scale public commissions for Åbo Akademi University in Turku, Finland, and Kvarteret Hållstugan, ÖrebroBostäder AB (both 2026). She has also been selected to create a portrait of the former Prime Minister of Sweden, Stefan Löfven, which will be installed at the Riksdag in 2026.
