Sylvia Naimark | Synkop

5 November — 19 December 2026
Overview
We are pleased to present Sylvia Naimark's second solo exhibition at the gallery, titled Synkop. The exhibition brings together linear compositions and more fluid, open-ended works.

Sylvia Naimark's intuitive, predominantly abstract works emerge through many layers of paint, where the processes of addition and reduction are equally important. Subjects and titles resurface and transform, always as an attempt to approach something that has not yet been visualized. Her work weaves together the personal and the universal, tracing experiences of change, grief, and the search for meaning. When recognizable figures occasionally appear in her work, they seem to inhabit a space that transcends rational logic.

The title Synkop carries a double meaning: it is both a medical term and a musical concept, referring to a disruption or displacement of rhythm. In a similar way, Naimark's paintings move between order and dissolution, rhythm and interruption.

In her work, Naimark seeks to create an equilibrium where each layer of paint develops its own logic. Working intuitively yet with control, she allows the works to evolve over time and intertwine into a coherent whole. Balancing movement and stillness, the paintings evoke a sense of presence, transition, and quiet tension.
