Viktor Rosdahl | du är mina chanser

2 - 31 October 2025
Overview

We are pleased to present Viktor Rosdahl’s second solo exhibition at the gallery, titled du är mina chanser (you are my chances) . The opening reception is on Thursday October 2, 17.00—20.00

In 2025, Rosdahl presented his first major and critically acclaimed exhibition, En strimma av klarhet (A Ray of Clarity), in his hometown of Helsingborg. In du är mina chanser (you are my chances), visitors will be able to re-encounter several of the works that were first shown there.

Rosdahl’s new paintings are, for the most part, monumental in size. Subject matter ranges from snow-covered mountains and dramatic natural phenomena, and the large-scale works evoke the sensation of being able to physically enter the scene. The scenic and romantic motifs are juxtapozed with a series of smaller paintings informed by the world of gang-related crime. Here, Rosdahl continues to process both society’s and his own unhealed wounds.

Through the painstaking process of egg tempera, he explores the contradictions of our time: utopia and dystopia, heaven and hell. Rosdahl does not shy away from depicting what is difficult. Nor does his art offer any simple answers—it insists on holding tension, on the opposites that permeate his imagery, where beauty and menace, the grand and the intimate, converge.

As art critic Fredrik Svensk puts it: ”Rosdahl shows how painting can still have what Gaston Bachelard called the ’explosive’ capacity of the image—to shatter the meaning of motifs whose significance and function we thought were self-evident. In an era where images are often expected to explain, reveal, prove, Rosdahl instead focuses on what is obscure, hidden, on what lingers. He paints a world in which the human being is encapsulated, where the landscape is lost, but still alive as an image, hopelessly controlled by the American petty tyrants of the internet.” (Aftonbladet, 2025-05-09)
