Oltre il viola
At the end of the color spectrum lies the color violet. Though invisible to us, the spectrum continues beyond that point. In his series “oltre il viola,” Mats Bergquist explores this color that is imperceptible to us: dark, monochrome works with surfaces that are partly matte, partly glossy and atmospheric, subtly absorbing and reflecting light. The pictures are located in the tension between painting and object, between materiality and immateriality. They are reflections on light and darkness, emptiness and abundance. In their intensity, they radiate a meditative stillness, inviting us to immerse ourselves in the depths of the color space.
