Ceiling light in brass coloured metal by Carl Thore (his real name was Sigurd Lindkvist) with soft non-dazzle light, the perfect light for a dining table. Made for Granhaga Metallindustri, Sweden in the 1960s
Carl Thore’s name was actually Sigurd Lindkvist, and he was born in 1916 in Åmål, Sweden. After working for a lighting firm called Luko, Lindkvist joined Granhaga Metallindustri in 1961. For Granhage he designed lights and was head of sales until he retired in around 1981. He adopted the pseudonym Carl Thore for his Granhaga light designs on the spur of the moment when he was presenting the lights to a client who asked the identity of the designer. “Carl Thore,” Lindkvist said, these being his two middle names. Thereafter the Granhaga lights were embellished with a small label on which the words “Design Carl Thore” were printed.
The most popular and widely distributed of Lindkvist’s Carl Thore lamp designs for Granhaga and his best-known design today was the appropriately named Trava (stack in English). Trava were produced in several variations of material and size and were sold in Sweden and also exported to a number of countries including Denmark, the Netherlands, England and South Africa.
