This cabinet on wheels were originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1927. The drawers were black or white colored with knobs. It is today produced by Tecta, who make licensed re-editions of Bauhaus models that are approved by the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin. In 1987, 60 years after the original Breuer design, Tecta decided to make a redesign of this iconic cabinet together with Maximilian Seitz. Maximilian added a fingerboard instead of the knobs, the corpus is made of high-grade steel and the drawer-fronts in white with blue fingerboard.
Tecta Bruchhäuser & Drescher OHG is a furniture manufacturing company based in Lauenförde, Germany. Their product line consists of Bauhaus re-editions, such as the iconic cantilever chair, and derivative designs. Tecta was founded in 1956 by the architect Hans Könecke.
Tecta fulfils a function similar to Cassina in Italy and Knoll International in the USA. Tecta’s faithful and licensed re-editions of Bauhaus models are approved by the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin and bear as an imprint the Bauhaus symbol designed by Oskar Schlemmer in 1922 at the original Bauhaus school in Weimar.
